Penguins in South Africa.

Many people think that penguins only live in very cold climates. The Jackass Penguins live on the cost of South Africa, where the temperatures can go up to 26º C.
They are called Jackass penguins because they sound like donkeys. They lives for around ten years, and say with the same mate for life.
Jackass penguins usually lay two eggs. The incubation piod is about six weeks. The parents take turns to guard the nest and to feed the chicks regurgitate food.
Penguin chicks start going into the water at about eight days. they are adult at four years old.
Penguins wings and bodies are designed for swimming. They cannot fly, and they are clumsy on land. Jackass penguins are swimmings machines. They can swim up to 20 kilometres per hour, tha's fastef than an Olympic swimmer!!!.
They can dive to 130 metre. They usually dice to 30 metres to catch fish and crustaceans. They are about 60 centimetres tall and weigh about 3,5 kilograms.
The jackass penguins have waterproof feathers that keep their skin dry. every year, they moult for three weeks: they lose their fathers and gros new nes. When they moult, they cannot swim, so they cannot est.
There are only about 120.000 jackass penguins in and around South Africa. In the 1930s, there were 1,2 milions. the penguins havr become a "vulnerable" species because of comercial fishing and oil pollution.
